How did you get into photography?
How did you get into photography? I attended a very small private school, grades K-12. I was in 5th grade and would always see one of the high schoolers there walking around with a camera, so I asked my mom if I could get one for Christmas. I took my crappy point and shoot with me everywhere. I fell in love with photography at that young age and very quickly realized this was something I was meant to do forever.
Who are some of your biggest inspirations?
My parents! They are some of the hardest workers I know. Migrating to a whole new country, not knowing a single bit of English, experiencing racism plus other tribulations to provide a better future for me is something that keeps me going.
How do you prepare yourself for a shoot?
I ask my clients a lot of questions haha. I like to get as much info as possible to get the ultimate best results. If they have inspo photos, Pinterest board, anything to get a glimpse of their vision, helps me bring it to life. Although, there are times when I’m doing a collab and literally just wing it. I’ve created some of my best work that way. A dope playlist also helps.
What do you ultimately want to say with your work?
I want people to feel inspired. Wether it’s modeling, creative directing, styling, or shooting. I want to bring more people’s stories to life. Capture a moment someone will look back and remember whatever season of their life that was.
If you could give a young photographer any advice, what would you tell em?
If anyone tries to discourage you. Ignore and keep grinding. It won’t be easy specially if you’re surrounded by people who think anything in the arts is a waste of time. Believe in yourself even in those moments when you’re about to give up. I had so many people in my life constantly telling me “photography is just a hobby, not a real job” or “you’re never going to make a living with a hobby”. That’s bs.
