In Focus w/ SCALE VISION

He/Him | @scalesvision | 26 | Kansas City, MO

How did you get into photography?

Since I was 15, I knew that I wanted to be a photographer. I’ve always loved and respected the artistry of the craft. When I was in high school, I took photography classes and knew that this was it. The key for me was to correlate the art and a business together.

Who are some of your biggest inspirations?

I have a few inspirations when it comes to building @scalesvision outside of my family: @Paid2Shoot on Instagram, he’s this mysterious cool guy that always takes pictures of the luxuries in life. @CamKirk on Instagram is another inspiration, he laid the groundwork for other photographers to use his brand to come after him hosting workshops and ultimately hiring several others, like a big brother in the industry. Lastly, Nipsey Hussle has influenced me when it comes to life and business, his motto ‘The Marathon Continues’ is the epitome of life, no matter what never quit!

How do you prepare yourself for a shoot?

Preparing for a shoot, I turn on a playlist that gets me hype to attack the day, the playlist features Meek Mill, Jay-Z & Nipsey Hussle. This playlist brings me back to a time when I first started and reminds me of why I started.

What do you ultimately want to say with your work?

Honestly, with my work, I want to make the statement: This is Kansas City. Representing my hometown in a positive light is very important to me.

If you could give a young photographer any advice, what would you tell em?

A piece of advice that I would give to a young photographer is to never doubt yourself, if you can think it, you can do it, no matter how “impossible” it may seem. Also, get out and go shoot, you will learn a lot about yourself and your style when you’re just winging it, have fun with it!
