🎥: Mortal Kombat - MOVIE REVIEW
By: T.K
This movie deserves some justice after all the failed attempts with the past versions. Technology and CGI was not there for them every time someone did a “Mortal Kombat” film back then until 2021! I was super hyped when I first heard about it when I saw the behind the scenes photos and their marketing on Twitter. The movie truly lives up to the Rated R rating.

Honestly....
We open the movie up in 17th century Japan as Lin Kuei assassins led by Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) attack Hanzo Hasashi aka Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) and his family. The choreography for the first fight scene is very strong and keeps you intrigued with the blending moves similar to the video games and intense combos that is refreshing to the eyes if you are into action films. Anyways, Hanzo is killed but his spirit is taken to the Netherrealm.
We jumped to a MMA fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan), a new character to the MK universe, losing and being watched by Jax (Mehcad Brooks). We learned that Cole always questioned the origin of his dragon birthmark when he and his family were out getting food after losing a fight and outta nowhere it’s snowing like a Hallmark’s Christmas movie. Thanks Sub-Zero. After the arm pulling fight, we meet more characters like Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) and wise cracking Kano (Josh Lawson). They travel to Earthrealm to prepare to fight Outworld with Liu Kang (Ludi Lin) and Kung Lao (Max Huang).
IN Conclusion…
I give this movie 2.5 skulls due to many reasons. A lot of characters we grew and loved were not in the film but watching the film again, it was to prepare us for the MK universe that they are going to bring to us for years like the Marvel Universe. Like the next movie, we finally get the Luke Cage we wanted in this movie but couldn’t get because ALLEGDY the director didn’t like the options they gave for Luke Cage. Second reason, WHERE WAS ALL THE GOOD PREPARING FOR TRAINING SCENES?!?! This movie was long for what? To talk?! I wanna see the director's cut because it must have the good parts with the training scenes. Without those scenes, it seems like they only had 1 day to learn their powers and tell Sonya to go sit her a$$ down. Last reason, why start the movie out with a strong intense fight and not keep it up throughout the film? The fights had blood and guts but the choreography for the fights was honestly mediocre. Hopefully in the second movie, the work on the fights improved and we get to see more of our favorite characters.
