Insecure: Everything Gonna Be, Okay?!- Episode Reaction
By: T.K
You guys, we are here. We are at the finale. A lot of things must come to an end. Last week, Nathan and Lawerence go head to head for Issa’s love at Tiffany and Derek’s going away party.
The episode begins with Issa and Nathan in the car. Issa invites Nathan inside and Nathan saids no. Nathan proceeds to let Issa know what happened was “toxic” and that he doesn’t wanna be involved in it anymore. Like sir, you embarrassed yourself first of all. When she gets inside her apartment, she receives an apology text from Lawrence which she ignores. When Molly arrives at Issa’s in the morning, she tries to reassure her that Nathan will come around, but mirror Issa isn’t so sure. Issa wishes that she could fast forward to the part of her life when everything is okay.
Birthdays All Year Around…
Everyone reunites for Molly’s birthday including Tiffany. It was good to see they were living up to the birthday pact. Kelli and Tiffany reunite and Tiffany meets Kelli’s new boo thang Desmond, who Issa claims is a rebound from Kelli’s imaginary fling with Daniel Kaluuya. Months later on Issa’s birthday, Issa comes to investigate a burst pipe in Crenshawn’s studio and finds a surprise birthday party waiting for her. People have been donating to the Blocc in honor of her birthday, and they’ve already raised $5000. Nathan decides to show up after ignoring Issa’s text messages. Issa is happy to hear that LA is starting to feel like home to him.
The ladies next meet it’s Tiffany’s birthday, and Kelli, Issa, and Molly have flown out to see her. Tiffany’s new home is gorgeous but she comes clean about hating Denver. When pushed for gossip, Molly spills the beans that Issa has met someone new, but Issa tells the girls it’s casual. While coming to get another glass of wine, Issa spots a photo of Lawrence, Elijah, and the other dads at Simone’s first birthday party. Molly asks her what she would have said to Lawrence if Nathan hadn’t interrupted that night. Suddenly, Molly’s brother Curtis calls and finds out her mother has passed away. </3
Lawrence’s birthday is next, and his mother sings him happy birthday over facetime. She asks him about Condola and it’s clear his parents like her. While they’re talking, Issa calls Lawrence and he answers. Issa tells him she’s been thinking about things, and about him awkwardly. She asks if she can take him out on his birthday, but he’s already made plans. His new girlfriend is taking him out for dinner. At Kelli’s birthday, Issa and her new man Nasir arrive. Kelli thanks her friends for coming, and announces that she and Desmond are expecting a baby! I feel like Kelli finally found her purpose from episode 1 which she truly deserves.
Everything is okay…
On Molly’s next birthday, Issa calls her to check in about celebrating for the first time without her mom. They talk about how crazy life has been lately, and how the four of them haven’t had much time to see each other. Lawrence comes by Issa’s new office space for the BLOCC. They catch up and he congratulates her on making it from “We Got Y’all” to where she is now. She tells him she realized no one was doubting her except for herself, and that she needed to believe it could work out for it to work. He asks her if she thinks it’ll work out with them, and she says she’s okay with finding out before they passionately make out. A year later, Molly and Taurean get married. Issa, Tiffany, and Kelli are bridesmaids. Tiffany is pregnant with her second child, and Lawrence and Issa are happily together. Issa helps Molly out of her wedding dress and they get emotional about the strength of their friendship and how far they’ve come together which I later found out that director Prentice Penny had Yvonne Orji who plays Molly to thank Issa as Yvonne not Molly as a surprise. So yes that was real friendship and real tears.
On Issa’s next birthday she drives by the Dunes, We Got Y’all, and Rite Aid on the way home to Lawrence. She arrives home to Lawerence who remembers her birthday, and his son Elijah was making her a cake for her. Getting ready for her birthday date with Lawrence in the mirror, Issa answers a call from Molly who is in Greece. They chat about missing each other, and Molly claims Taurean has broken her pussy, which Issa teased her about in season one, episode one. “Bossy” by Kelis plays as Issa walks away from the mirror.
Tears were flowing into my wine cup while watching the season finale. Thank you guys for the endless DM’s about my reactions and the love you guys showed me. See you next review!
